About animals

Work in small groups to –find, share and present information.
Work as a group to research information about one of four animal categories.
Individually research information about specific animals within their groups category and
collaborate to compile all of the research into one cohesive presentation.
Share information they have gathered for their category and their individual animal through
the use of display and presentation.
Identify ways they can demonstrate the character pillars of citizenship, respect and responsibility in their own lives with animals.
The study of animals is frequently an integral part of the early primary science curriculum. Most children have some framework of knowledge about animals, on which further understanding can be built. Activities about animals can also incorporate a variety of skills — reading, observation, vocabulary, description, and comparison. The activities in this unit incorporate skills that are critical in language arts, math, and science. Use the following three-point rubric to evaluate students work during this lesson. Extension:
