I. : Yes, she was 268 metres long, 55 metres high and had 9 decks. Her cost was 400 million modern American dollars. Do you remember how much your ticket cost?
S. : Well, Im not sure, but the tickets were very, very expensive.
I. : Even the cheapest tickets for the third-class passengers cost about 500 dollars. These people were going off to find a new home in America. The trip to America offered them a chance of a new life. So, your family were on the way to the USA. Why?
S. : My parents were travelling for fun. Everybody said the Titanic was the biggest and the fastest ship in the world. She was also the safest ship!
I. : When did the disaster happen?
S. : On the third day of the trip. It was the 14th of April, 1912.
I. : Tell us what you remember about that day.
S. : The weather was good on that day. But it was cold and people stayed inside. The sea was quite smooth. The Titanic was almost in the middle of the Atlantic and she was going very fast. It was a dangerous thing to do.
I. : Why?
S. : Because of icebergs. There were lots of them in that particular part of the Atlantic at that time of the year. It was very dark that night. Suddenly a huge iceberg appeared, almost directly in front of the ship. She was trying to turn when she struck the iceberg.
I. : There was another ship that was passing nearly, wasnt there?
S. : Yes. The Californian.
I. : Why didnt the Californian try to take some passengers off?
S. : Ah, thats the big mystery. They must have seen the eight white rockets that were fired from the Titanic.
I. : And SOS signals.
S. : Yes, exactly. It seems they thought they were having a party on board the Titanic and were j
