of the invaders as their bare feet touched the thorns of the thistles in the field they were crossing.
This of course, was a good reason to choose the thistle as a national emblem!

When you were small children you would often hear your parents telling you "Stop that! Do you hear me? Dont do that!" and something of the same kind.
Today you know what you may do and what you are not allowed to do. You always remember that you live and work together with other people. You must respect them and think whether they like what you are doing or not.
Some young people think differently about the problem. There are boys and girls who ignore rules of conduct. They dont think about those who may be sitting near them at a table or at the cinema.
Some others try to be disciplined but they are not sure that they must remember all those rules of conduct.
One day a fifteen-year-old girl sent a letter to her favourite writer. She asked him why she was not allowed to wear a skirt which was very short. "Is there a law about skirts?" she asked. "Has anybody the right to tell me how I must dress?"
We can see that speaking about "rights" and "laws" the girl wanted to do everything she liked. And here we must tell her: we cannot disregard the society in which we live. And we must remember that besides written laws there are a lot of rules. In fact they are unwritten laws which we must follow. <
