Actually you saw the illustrations to the poem made by Gustave Dor.
The poem is long so we wont be able to read the whole of it today. But for you to understand the sequence of events in the first part of the poem try to put the sentences in the right order:
1) He tells of how he and his fellow marines reached the equator only to be blown by a violent storm towards the polar regions
2) For some inexplicable reason the marine shoots the albatross.
3) The mariner stops a wedding guest near the church to tell his dreadful tale
4) It was received as a Christian soul and was given food and soon the ship started to drift back in the direction of the equator
5) After several days trapped in the ice an albatross appeared from the fog
Task 5: Now we are ready to read the extract.
The Sun now rose upon the right:
Out of the sea came he,
Still hid in mist, and on the left
Went down into the sea.
And the good south wind still blew behind
But no sweet bird did follow,
Nor any day for food or play
Came to the mariners hollo!
