great pleasure. First of all Id like to tell about the New Years Eve, X-mas and Easter. On the New Years Eve we also decorate the New Years tree and sing the New Years songs kolyadky and schedrivky. Its a merry holiday. Recently new national holidays have appeared. They are of religious origin. Our ancestors celebrated these holidays, but they were abolished for a long time in our country. But nowadays these holidays are loved by everybody. On X-mas we gather at homes with our relatives and celebrate the birth of Christ on the 7-th of January. Before Easter we clean our houses, try to finish all field works. The last Sunday before Easter is called Willow Sunday. On this day pussy-willow branches are blessed in the church. A lot of people go to the church to bless various provisions, especially Easter cakes. Children like this holiday for traditionally painted boiled eggs. There is an interesting fact- in one of the towns in the western part of Ukraine a huge sculpture of a colourful Easter egg was erected. There are dates and events in the life of our country which are important for every Ukrainian citizen. These dates are Victory Day, the Womens Day, the Independence Day. On Victory Day we celebrate the anniversary of the victory over fascism in the World War II. We congratulate the war veterans and honour the memory of those people who didnt come from the war. On the 8-th of March in the streets there are a lot of men buying flowers and presents. Children give their mothers presents and the handmade ones are especially beautiful. And, of course, one of the main holiday in Ukraine is the Independence Day, celebrated on the 24-th of August. On this day in 1991 the Act of Independence of Ukraine was proclaimed.
