Pupil 2: Ill tell you about the tradition which came from ancient England. This is Halloween. The name means all hallows eve: the eve of All Saints Day, celebrated on October 31-st. Its origin is very old and goes back to the times of the Celts, who on October 31-st celebrated the Celtic New Year. The symbol of Halloween is a ghostly figure of Jack OLantern – a hollowed pumpkin, which has holes cut in it to represent a human face. Halloween is much popular among the American children. They dress up in funny clothes and masks, go round the houses asking for fruit, candies or money. If you dont give anything to them, they play tricks on you, like putting a garbage bin in front of your door or throwing flour on your windows. The children say trick or treat at your doors and if you give them some candies, they leave for the next door. Children like this holiday very much and they gather a lot of good things.
Pupil 3: And Id like to tell about the holiday, which is celebrated only in the USA. Its Thanksgiving Day. It was first celebrated in October 1621. The Pilgrims had arrived from Europe on the ship Mayflower in 1620. They had worked hard all during spring and summer of the following year. As the harvest was good, the Pilgrims wanted to thank God for it. From 1863 Thanksgiving Day was declared a national holiday and it is celebrated with stuffed turkey and pumpkin pie for dinner.
