Abstract. This article describes the main features of communicative competence, its main components and levels, necessity to form the communicative competence of pupils.
A key role is given to the use of the microblog Twitter in the learning process as an important and accessible way to increase the motivation of pupils to learn a foreign language. The examples of tasks using Twitter show the possibility of forming different components of communicative competence at English lessons.
