Easter
Easter is one of the most popular holidays among Christians worldwide. It commemorates Jesus Christs resurrection from death. According to New Testament it occurred on the third day of Christs burial after his crucifixion by Romans at Calvary in 30 AD.
Like all other festivals and holidays, Easter is also celebrated differently in various parts of the world.
England
Easter Sunday is celebrated mainly by exchange of Easter Eggs and other gifts like money, chocolate, and clothes. Some people make Easter bonnets or baskets, which are sometimes filled with daffodils or mini eggs. The Easter bunny is also a part of the Easter tradition in England. It hides the eggs in the houses and children on Easter Sunday have to find them, reports.
On this day churches are beautifully decorated with different flowers. People attend special services on Easter Sunday. These may be longer or more elaborate than on other Sundays.
Greece
In Greece, on Easter Sunday lambs are roasted and the supply of wine is abundant, which are served in honor of Jesus Christ, who was sacrificed for our sins and rose again on Easter. Red-dyed eggs are cracked against each other and the person with the last remaining uncracked egg is believed to have good luck. Easter Sunday is a time of festivity and people eat, chat or dance throughout the night, reports.
Easter Sunday is the biggest church holiday in Greece. Memorable services are also held at the Athens Cathedral, attended by civic dignitaries.
