The West End is the western part of London between the City and Hyde Park. The City and West End are the heart of the capital. Here you can see historical buildings, theatres, museums, fashionable shops and gardens.

Pupil 3. Westminster Palace is known as the Houses of Parlia - ment. This is where British Parliament sits. The modern Westminster
Palace was built in 1840 after the fire on the historical place of the old Westminster Palace.
There are two towers: the Victoria Tower and the Clock Tower. The Victoria Tower holds the documents of both the House of Lords and the House of Commons.
Big Ben is the name of the huge clock bell on the top of Big Ben. It is the biggest one in Britain. It was called Big Ben after Sir Benja - min Hall, who looked after the building of the clock.
Pupil 4. St Pauls Cathedral is the citys greatest monument and the masterpiece of the famous architect Sir Christopher Wren. He is known as "the architect of London" for he planned the building of London after the Great Fire of 1666 with wide streets and houses made of bricks. It was built in 1675-1710 and the building went on for 35 years.
Inside the church there are monuments to national heroes. The Duke of Wellington, Admiral Nelson, Joshua Reynolds and Christo - pher Wren are buried there. An inscription in Latin says: "If you seek a memorial, look about you".
