Lesson objectives
In this lesson, the students will be able to:
- explain the principle of alternating current generation and transmission over distance;
- demonstrate the scientific and economic advantages of alternating current and of high voltages for the transmission of electrical energy;
- show understanding of the principle of operation of a simple laminated iron-cored transformer and recall and solve problems using N1/N2V1/V2I2/I1 for an ideal transformer;
- Describe the source of the changing magnetic flux in the core of a transformer based on Faradays law of induction.
- use the following equations in problem solving for an ideal transformer.
Success criteria
Students have achieved the objective if they are able to:
Explain the principle of alternating current generation, direct current generation and transmission over distance;
demonstrate the scientific and economic advantages of alternating current and need for high voltage transmission of electrical energy;
