In 1844 Vietan married the pianist from Vienna to Josephine Eder. Later she always accompanied her husband in the concert trips and often accompanied him. The following year Henri Vietan along with Francois Fetis, Charles Hanssens and his teacher Charles Berio was adopted as an honorary member of the Belgian Royal Academy of Sciences in the category of arts.
Since 1846 Vietan lived and worked in St. Petersburg, where he had the position of soloist of the Imperial theatres, and was engaged in teaching. Having worked in Russia for seven years and composed a number of plays and the Fourth Concerto. In Russia, Vietan has created his best violin works, including the 4-th concert with the orchestra, and a fantasy on themes from "Askolds grave" by A. N. Verstovsky, plays in Russian, plays on Russian Opera and folk themes. In 1871-73 and Professor of the Brussels Conservatory (his student Eugene Ysaye) one of the greatest violinists of the romantic movement. The most significant 7 Concerto for violin and orchestra, influenced the development of this genre.
Vietan returned to Paris and continued an active concert activity. Numerous touring violinist encompassed not only Europe, but also Turkey and America.
In 1866 Vietan lost his father, and in 1868 — wife. Experiences and tiring tour (only six months American tour he gave 121 concerts) affected his health and he decided to cut his concert activity and to participate in education. In 1871 Vietan received a professorship at the Brussels Conservatory. In 1873, after paralysis of the left half of the body, he refused to continue a career as a concert violinist, and engaged in composition and partly teaching.
