New Year in Australia happens in summer. The only New Year cards published portrayed white winter New Year. All this was a bit ridiculous in a country where 80 percent of the land has never seen a snowflake, even in winter.
On New Years Eve you find a lot of kids on the beach playing with their new surfboards, building sandcastles rather than snowmen. Indeed one of the typical Australian New Year presents that nearly every Australian receives once in their life is a beach towel.
Australians buy special food and drinks for the day. They cook biscuits and cookies with milk, they make ham, vegetables, special fruitcakes and puddings and eat tropical fruits.

New Year in China

The Chinese New Year festivities are held at the end of January or beginning of February for a period of one month. During this time, Chinese people celebrate the end of the winter season.
Preparations begin in December when shops are filled with people buying gifts. Buying new shoes is extremely important because it is believed that if you walk in old shoes on New Years Day, youll have bad luck.
