ing, and everyone gives and receives presents. There is a tradition that children should put stockings at the end of their beds, hoping that Santa Clause will come down the chimney during the night and fill them with toys and sweets.

P3: The first holiday of the year is New Years Day. People see the new year in at midnight on the 31st of December. There are lots of New Year traditions in Russia. In every home there is a New Year tree glittering with coloured lights and decorations. Children always wait for Father Frost to come and give them presents. I like New Years Eve, the night before New Years Day, because my parents allow me to stay up all night! We blow horns and whistles at midnight to announce the beginning of a new year. Some people shake hands, sing and shout " Happy New Year!"
P4: Easter is celebrated on a Sunday in April or May. The week before Easter people colour eggs and cook Easter cakes. On Easter Sunday children wake up to find that Easter Bunny has left them a basket of candy.
P5: People in Russia have their own special traditions. One of them is Maslenitsa- the holiday, which lasts for a week, to say " good bye" to winter. People celebrate it at the end of February or at the beginning of March. During this holiday they celebrate the end of winter and the beginning of spring. In old times people usually cooked pancakes, had fires, burnt straw scarecrows of winter, they sang songs and danced. Now during " Maslenitsa week" people always cook pancakes. They invite their friends, their nearest and dearest to see each other and eat pancakes with sour cream, fish, caviar or butter, sugar, honey.
P6: One of my favourite holiday is St. Valentine"s Day. We celebrate this holiday on the 14th of Februar
