Dear children and our guests! Today is the 26-th of September. This day is the day of European languages. And we celebrate this event in our school too!
It was proclaimed by the Council of Europe and was first held in 2001 as a part of European Year of languages. Hundreds of events were organised, reaching millions of people in 45 countries. The aim of this day is to promote cultural and linguistic diversity and to encourage people – schoolchildren and adults – to learn languages. Today we meet our gusts! They came here from 4 European countries (Great Britain, France, Germany and Italy. And they want to tell us about their countries.

2-й слайд . The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland uses as its national flag the royal banner known as the Union Flag or the Union Jack. The current design of the Union Flag dates from the union of Ireland and Great Britain in 1801. It consists of the red cross of Saint George (patron saint of England), edged in white, superimposed on the Cross of St Patrick (patron saint of Ireland), which are superimposed on the Saltire of Saint Andrew (patron saint of Scotland). Wales, however, is not represented in the Union Flag by Wales patron saint, Saint David, as at the time the flag was designed Wales was part of the Kingdom of England.
