al wooden church was built here before the revolution of 1917. But it was destroyed in the 30th.
The founder of the modern temple is the local businessman, Evgeniy Fedorovich Makarov. He got the idea of building it from his father. So the temple was called in honour of his father, Fedor Vasilyevich Makarov, who was a true patriot of his village and had always dreamt of the revival of the temple. The new temple was given the name of Theodore of the Kiev Caves. The cornerstone of the church was consecrated on September 22nd, 2007, the year of 1020th celebration of the Baptism of Rus. Building of the church didnt take much time. It was erected within a year. The opening ceremony and the solemn consecration took place on August 15th, 2008.
The modern church is made of brick and wood. Its small but really nice. Its glittering golden dome can be seen far away. The temple is located in a picturesque place on chalk hills, surrounded with a deciduous forest. To reach the church, you should go up the hill. What a lovely view is open to the visitors from the place! You can see the river Oskol, the beautiful meadows and woods, the villages of Lavy and Koloskovo, the chalk hills, covered with wonderful vegetation.
Now let us find out who Theodore of the Kiev Caves was, whose name is given to the church. According to the historical information, he lived in the XI century. He was a monk in the Kievo-Pechersky Lavra. Theodore gave out his riches to the poor people, went to the monastery and settled in a cave. He shared his cell with St. Basil there. His main feat was to overcome the passion of avarice.
