uction of that railway. They were engaged in heavy work: clearing forests, and mounds, stacking rails, building barracks. Different stations were built at a certain distance from each other. And Shemordan was among them. On the 12 of May it got the name of a workers settlement. During the war Shemordan became a rearward village. And wood has become the main source of fuel. The foresters were involved in the timber harvesting. At the same time, they were carrying out the orders of the front: the production of skis and shoes, boxes of ammunition and mines, shovel handles, supports for the mines. One of the dramatic pages of military history was the evacuation. On February 1, 1943 the number of evacuees in Shemordan was 593. The Great Patriotic War against fascist Germany brought a lot of troubles for Shemordan. More than 500 sons and daughters of Shemordan left to defend our homeland. 171 of them were killed, 92 residents were missed, and 89 returned disabled. We, the young generation, keep the memory of the fallen countrymen and bow our heads to soldiers and their relatives.
Currently Shemordan remains a major railway center in Tatarstan. A new building of modern architecture was built in the place of the old railway station. The people of Shemordan are always glad to meet visitors and create a friendly atmosphere for them. The hotel "Chulpan" is always ready to host the guests. I would invite you to our new restaurant "Kyzyl Kalfak" where you can taste our national cuisine. Sport is very popular in our village. There is a sport complex "Yashlek" to do various sports. The cultural life is many-sided. We are proud of Childrens Art School, the House of Culture, Music School, and a local library. Names of the streets reflect the countrys
