The sights of Cardiff and South Wales
Cardiff Castle is one of Wales leading attractions and a site of international significance. Located within beautiful parklands at the heart of the capital, Cardiff Castles walls and fairytale towers conceal 2,000 years of history.
First, in 3rd century it was the Roman Fort. Then Norman invaders builted the original castle in the late 11th century on top of that Roman fort. But remains of the Roman wall can be seen today. The Castle passed through the hands of many noble families until in 1766, it passed to the Bute family. He created gothic towers, luxurious interiors, rich with murals, stained glass, marble, and wood carvings. Each room has its own special theme, including Mediterranean gardens and Italian and Arabian decoration. Nowadays Cardiff Castle belongs to the City of Cardiff.
The Animal Wall, alongside Cardiff Castle, is one of the most delightful and photographed historic features in Cardiff. It was designed by architect William Burges for the 3rd Marquess of Bute and is much-loved by the people of the city.
