Warm up.
With books closed, ask SS to remember how we express possibility in the present. Give them some scenarios and elicit sentences using may, might, could, must, cant. For example, say: Joes doing his driving test after only three lessons. (He cant be ready/must be very confident). Look, its getting cloudy. It may/might rain this afternoon), etc. .
Tell SS they are going to learn how to express possibility in the past.
