ation: I never saw such an eloquent look of shame, of pitiable humiliation, overspread a countenance before. It is a miserable and pathetic creature who wants only peace for his soul, and rest in peace.
The story is full of symbols, for example, the major symbol, in my opinion, the ghost as a representative of death, of something, not from this world. And also, the house, as a symbol of loneliness, of something, where the author tries to hide himself and not to be disturbed.
The ending is quite predictable, the ghost is miserable and unhappy, asking to keep it in a secret. He leaves abandoned taking the protagonists blanket with him. This fact is also of a bright significance because it is obvious that nothing but a child would do it. And the parallel between the child and our ghost is quite obvious.
The title is direct but at the same time it can be interpreted doubly: on the one hand its a story about the ghost and it is supposed to be scary and frightening, but it is not.
