1) Since the Second World War the cultural highpoint of Scottish life has been this famous annual festival that is held during the latter part of August and early September. The citizens of the capital join with the visitors in the pleasure of hearing and seeing great works of art.
2) On the Saturday afternoon before the opening of the International Festival each year, they are held. Athletes from all over the world take part in track and field events. Traditionally Scottish dressed in kilts take part in track and field events, such as tossing the caber and throwing the hammer.
