The solar cars were much lighter than gas-powered cars. Their tires were as thin as bicycle tires. Some race cars had parts made of plastic material. The cars had to be light because their motors didnt have as much power as cars with gas-powered motors. Each car ran on about the same amount of energy needed to run a hair dryer!
Scientists say that energy from the sun doesnt pollute the air the way gas engines do. They hope the race will lead to new ways to use solar power in the future.
