Topic - countries and nationalities
Level - Beginner/Elementary
Age - 8-14
Aim - to learn the names of countries and nationalities; to learn how to use new vocabulary in conversation.
Length - 30 min


Plan of the lesson
Warm up activity
Teacher starts the lesson with questions "Where are you from?", "What nationality are you?".
Than the teacher corrects the answers and explains whats the difference between the name of the country and nationality.
(This activity is suitable if all students are from one country, so to show the example and to correct them much more easier. E. g. to show the difference between "Russia" - a country, where the students live, and "Russian" - their nationality. )
Now students are able to describe themselves and they are ready to learn new vocabulary to describe others.

Presentation
Teacher presents new vocabulary using the cue cards. He shows cards one by one, points and names country and nationality, students repeat after him (chorally/individually).

Practice
There are two written questions on the board: "Where are you from?" and "What are your nationality?".
They are to be practiced in the following ways:
Choral work:
Teacher: - Where are you from? (Teacher points to America)
Students: - We are from America. Etc
Individual work:
Teacher: - What nationality are you, Student 1? (Teacher points to Spain)
Student 1: - I am Spanish.
Teacher: - What nationality are you, Student 2? (Teacher points to France)
Student 2: - I am French. Etc

Production
Instructions: Work in pairs. One chooses a country where he is from
