ured reliably and finally, author presents some implications concerning possible research and possible applications of FV.
The purpose if this paper is to address the long ignored topic of face validity and attempt to give it some new theoretical and applied meanings.
The direct approach was adopted in FV measurement. In other words, the people who are involved with the test taking were asked to do the rating. The general approaches to the measurement of FV are described best as "absolute" and "relative". In the absolute technique, the ratter is asked to rate a test or an item on the following 5- point scale (extremely suitable, suitable, adequate, irrelevant, and unsuitable). In the relative technique, the ratter simultaneously judges the FV of several tests by comparing them to each other.
Empirical findings are divided into three parts: interrater agreement, reliability, and discriminant validity data. The data base for the analysis reported here is a file of the responses of 1,385 examinees that filled out an Examinees Feedback Questionnaire. The items comprising the instrument deal with examinees feelings, attitudes, and opinions about a test they have just taken. The respondents had taken the Haifa and Tel Aviv Universities entrance examination.
The data showed that interrater reliability as reflected by the intraclass correlation was 0. 44 (p
